IESessions 1.04

Store sessions for Internet Explorer browser at Amazon S3 Service or locally (IE6/IE7 are supported).

Tried using IESessions on Vista and got into problems? Please read this helpful tip by Ben: Using IESessions to Save Sessions on Windows Vista.

What is this?

BaoBau™ IESessions is a convenient alternative to the Internet Explorer Favorites that can save your browser sessions for future use. It makes possible to transfer your browser sessions across computers and even different browser versions (Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Explorer 7 are currently supported).

If you are doing long research on the Internet and want to change your location, just save your sessions to a file and send it by e-mail, put it into the memory stick or export to Amazon S3 Storage, and with a few clicks of the mouse you will be able to restore them instantly at any time later.

Stopless Browsing

How many times you've been interrupted while browsing the Web and searching for information or just good sites, leaving a pile of opened browsers and tabs on your desktop? It is literally impossible to store all of them in the Favorites or remember later, first of all because the browser Favorites fill out fast (mine have more than 3,000 entries up today), and second - most of the pages are necessary for a couple of days (or may be weeks) only and will eventually go into nothingness.

Evoke the IESessions program, press Save Current button, enter a new session name (or leave the default one) and that’s it! You will have your current session pages conveniently stored and visible in the Sessions browser window.

IESessions Main Window

To load the saved session at the next time, double click on it in the Sessions browser window or select it and press the Load button. You may choose to load a separate URL from the saved session. It works the same way – just double click on the link or use the Load button.

But it gets even better: you can move your stored Sessions to another computer or even to a different browser version.

Moving through the Day

No matter where you go, using IESessions you will be able to instantly restore your browser pages. Let's say you were browsing the Web using home desktop computer and decided to continue your work on a laptop, or go to the library computer. Store you current browser session using Save Session button as described above, then press Import/Expor button and chose the location to export an .IES file The file will contain information about all your saved sessions. This file can be transferred to another computer using WiFi, e-mail or other means of your choice.

Export Sessions

After you moved the IESessions .IES file to another computer, open IESessions at this computer, press Import/Export button, and select the file for import. A message box will tell you that the import was successful, and you will find new and old sessions in the Sessions browser window. Now you can load the last session and continue working from where you left off.

Export Sessions

Tabbies

Now, what will happen in the case of different browser versions? When you store sessions using the tabbed browser (like Internet Explorer 7), and open them using the non-tabbed browser (like Internet Explorer 6), you will get a set of browser windows where each tab of the tabbed browser corresponds to a separate window of non-tabbed one.

IESessions in IE6

Or visa versa; if the session stored using non-tabbed browser, it will be opened in the tabbed browser as a set of tabs. This feature currently tested on Internet Explorer 6 and 7.

IESessions in IE7

If you have several tabbed browsers opened, IESessions will store all tabs in all browsers.

Using IESessions to Save Sessions on Windows Vista.

I just wanted to let you know that IESessions works perfectly for Windows Vista if i install it into the following folder: C:/Users/*user name*/AppData(hidden folder)/Roaming/IE Sessions I tried the tip on your website first...but it didn't work for me... it worked first time in the directory that I tried it in.
Feel free to post my tip on your website... I sent it to you to use, because IEsessions is such a handy tool (thank you).

Thank you too, Bob!

I have been trying out IESessions and it is a very useful extension (one of my favorites) However I noticed that it does not support Vista with User Account Control turned on (it starts up but will not save sessions) It does run fine if I turn off UAC. ...

My solution was to install IESessions to C:\users\%userdata% (whatever your user happens to be)\LocalLow\IESessions I found other "IE7 protected mode aware" applications were storing their data there and installed IESessions there as well. Problem solved! I can now save my sessions with UAC & IE7 protected mode enabled.

Hope this helps you if anyone should ask about this problem in the future.

Thanks to Ben for the useful tip!
